"Let's talk about industrial design"
I've often had to explain what industrial design involves. In college, we were frequently asked to answer the question: "How would you explain what industrial design is to someone else?" With that in mind, let's clarify it.
Industrial design can be seen as the fusion of art and technology. It includes the aesthetic appearance of a product as well as its technological innovations.
The scope of industrial design is vast, covering an array of everyday objects, from something as small as a pencil to something as big as an airplane.
This category, of design has experienced significant growth since its inception during the Industrial Revolution and the emergence of the "aesthetics of the machine". Its importance has only intensified since the post-war period. It has even been recognized as an autonomous sector capable of influencing and shaping the modification and evolution of other art forms.
There are no limits to what an industrial designer can create – whether it's consumer goods, (tangible or intangible products and services), or the design of the user experiences. The only restriction is the imagination of the designer.
